Determination, diligence, passion and speed are all strong qualities that Justin Wilson possesses. Glancing at the 6'3-1/2" Sheffield, England native, one might think he should be playing basketball, but that thought quickly disappears when he gets behind the wheel of an IndyCar. Although he is the tallest driver in the IndyCar Series, his blindingly fast speed has helped him to build his impressive racing resume and proves that the need for speed is in the Englishman's blood. Wilson's father Keith was an amateur Formula Ford racer in England, and he followed in his dad's footsteps.
The 31 year-old started racing professionally at the age of 16. He captured his first big break in 2003 with a spot on the Minardi Formula One team before moving to Team Jaguar for the last five races. Justin never looked back after securing a ride in the Champ Car World Series in 2004.
Wilson's success in open-wheel racing includes two back-to-back runner-up finishes in the 2006-2007 Champ Car World Series, along with four wins and six poles. He soon would turn heads again in his debut in the 2008 IndyCar Series by earning his first victory at the Raceway at Belle Isle in Michigan. Wilson finished the season eleventh overall.
That momentum would carry into the 2009 season, when he made the move to Dale Coyne Racing, giving Dale and Gayle Coyne their first win. He would continue to record three top-five and seven top-10 finishes, start from the front row at three road/street course events and lead a total of 129 laps, finishing the season 9th in the overall championship.
Justin proved his ultimate determination by forming Justin Wilson plc and selling nearly 900 shares of himself to investors as a means of funding his racing career. A portion of his race winnings are paid back to the investors.
Wilson has conquered the challenges of dyslexia. He spends his free time at home with his family, wife Julia and daughters' Jane and Jessica.
Justin Wilson Plc.: A group of British race fans have been given the opportunity to purchase shares in the company set up by Wilson's management team and their investment are paid through the driver's earnings. There are over 900 investors in Justin Wilson plc and every investor is guaranteed to double their money. "I'm delighted and ßattered that so many people have chosen to invest in my career. I get asked a lot if it's added pressure knowing that people have invested their hard-earned money into Justin Wilson plc but as I keep saying, I view the investors as additional support and not additional pressure!"
