Baltimore, MD (Sept. 3, 2011) -Today was filled
with ups and downs for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in Baltimore,
Maryland. The Indianapolis-based squad worked diligently to get the
cars just right, but unfortunately things didn't go exactly to plan
for DRR drivers Giorgio Pantano (No. 22 Roll Coater), Ana Beatriz
(No. 24 Ipiranga), and Tomas Scheckter. The trio qualified 15th,
22nd, and 24th respectively.
Today's session didn't go the way Giorgio Pantano had hoped. The
Italian diligently chipped away all weekend and had been fast for
all of the sessions. He was working hard to advance, but
unfortunately he didn't have the grip that he needed, and as a
result, he was unable to continue to the Fast Twelve. Pantano
clocked a time of 01:21.6857 (89.906) and will start 15th on the
grid for tomorrow's race.
Ana Beatriz proved that she is constantly improving as she
continues to conquer the new Baltimore circuit. As she diligently
worked to make it into the Fast Twelve, Bia was nudged out in the
end. The rookie will start 22nd tomorrow as she
recorded a fast lap time of 01:22.9070 (88.581). Beatriz, secured
her best IZOD IndyCar career qualifying result in Sonoma last
weekend with a 10th place starting spot. In July of this year, she
earned her best IZOD IndyCar result in Toronto, Canada when she
brought the car home in 11th place.
After a year of not competing on a road/street course, Tomas
Scheckter had a solid run in qualifying. As he diligently worked to
make it into the fast twelve, he was unable to get a clean lap and
had some brake issues. The South African will start 24th
(01:22.9769 (88.507) on the grid for tomorrow's race. This
weekend marks Scheckter's first time back on a road/street course
since Edmonton last year. He had the opportunity to test two weeks
ago at Infineon Raceway.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track for The Inaugural
2011 Baltimore Grand Prix in Baltimore, Maryland tomorrow. The
qualifying broadcast will air live on Saturday, September 3rd at
2:00 pm (EDT) on VERSUS. The race telecast will air live on Sunday,
September 4th at 2:00 pm (EDT) on VERSUS. The race will air live on
the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 94, and Sirius channel 212.
What they have to say...
Tomas Scheckter, No. 07 Redline Xtreme Machine:
"I'm a little disappointed. We didn't have a clear lap and we
had some brake issues. We need to look over it tonight and
see what we can do for tomorrow."
Giorgio Pantano No. 22 Roll Coater: "I'm not
happy because it was raining a little bit and then Indy Lights went
out and they took away all of the rubber. The track was
really slippery in the beginning. I tried to wait a little
bit before going out and the times were just coming up. It
was disappointing because the longer you could stay out the better,
but unfortunately we just missed out in the end. Hopefully
tomorrow we can have a good race and bring home a positive
result."
Ana Beatriz, No. 24 Ipiranga: "We are really
struggling this weekend. The track is really rough and tough
and I didn't really adapt myself well. I think that I'm
improving, but we're not where we need to be. We'll work on
it tonight and I'll compare with my teammates to see what we need
to do for the race. Hopefully we can get a good balance and
have a clean race and finish well."
